Originally from Kansas City, Missouri, John has a diverse background in percussion. He has a B.A. in Music from Missouri Western and is currently pursuing a Master’s in Performance and Education Certification from the University of North Texas.
As a performer John has competed in DCI, WGI, and PASIC as a snare drummer. On drum-set he has performed with nationally touring acts, done a television music showcase, performed at SXSW, and was a finalist for the 2010 Sabian Drum-Off.
Immediately following completion of the bachelor’s degree, John enlisted in the Marine Corps. At the 2d Marine Division he served as percussion section leader. During this time the percussion ensemble was recognized as the Marine Corps Small Ensemble of the Year.
In education, John has worked with various scholastic programs throughout the country to include Blue Springs High School (MO) under percussion director Clif Walker. In DCI, John served on percussion staff with Music City Drum Corps for three years.
Recently John has pursued entrepreneurial interests by founding MidCoast Percussion. The company won first place in the 2019 UNT Music Entrepreneurship Competition, and the patent pending Beat SheetTM was awarded “Best Musical Product.”
Aside from music John is an active individual who enjoys running, biking, fishing, hiking and every other outdoor activity. He believes in learning as a lifelong pursuit, and is perpetually seeking to create new things that improve the world.
